If you are looking for a high-profile, highly-visible and critical corporate communications role then this is for you. It would suit an ambitious candidate who enjoys a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and who has proven experience in science media relations and communications.

You will help manage global media engagement to support the company's priorities of achieving scientific leadership, sustained financial growth and being a great place to work.

This role will help lead the development and delivery of the global media strategy and corporate narrative, lead the delivery of therapy area media engagement, and bring to life key editorial themes. An important aspect to the job is to manage a large volume of corporate news announcements that are the result of the company's significant progress in building its pipeline.

You must be able to gain the trust and respect of journalists and of colleagues – including with senior leaders, who will rely on the team's advice and guidance on media-related questions. You should be equally at home discussing scientific and financial issues and be proactive in not only developing stories, but in finding new ways and channels of telling them in a continually changing media landscape.

Your responsibilities will include:

Developing accurate, clear and compelling messages in a timely way for global media 

Identifying, developing and placing stories in media outlets that support the business's reputation

Writing, editing and managing the approval of corporate news and stock exchange announcements

Supporting the Head of Global Media Relations on quarterly financial results

Handling media enquiries and acting as a company spokesperson

Building trust and respect for the company among journalists and news organisations

Helping to manage responses to issues/crisis scenarios

Working with other functions and markets in the organisation and with external partners

Advising and counselling senior management on issues/decisions that could impact company reputation and share price

Managing the contribution of the external consultancy

Experience of working in a busy press office and a similar corporate communications environment is vital. As is sound knowledge of the business media, especially in the UK, US and China. Experience of working with top-tier international media is a distinct advantage. You will need to be scientifically literate with a working knowledge of the life sciences industry.
